I am a dedicated teacher who believes in active learning and listening to student feedback. Learning should always involve an element of doing, and I make a point to incorporate this into all courses teach. In 2014, I received university-wide teaching award form the University of California, San Diego. I consider this one of my biggest accomplishments to date.

Studying Selfies (Winter 2016, Spring 2016)

This course takes the selfie as a jumping off point to explore questions of identity, representation, technology and power. What are these forms of photographic self-representation really? Why do we take them? And what can they tell us about ourselves and our values as a society? [ISLA 320_S16_syllabus][project website]

Introduction to Media Arts & Technologies  (Fall 2015, Spring 2016)

What makes a book a book? Why do some YouTube videos become so popular? And does the Internet really affect society? This course serves as an introduction to the critical study and production of media. Taking the medium (singular of media) as our subject, we explore the implications that technologies (in general) and different media arts (in particular) have on personal, interpersonal, and public life. Syllabus: [ISLA 240_S16_syllabus]
